Thurs., March 8, 2007 It's Official

We had our appointment with the U.S. consulate today. Molly received her passport and U.S. visa. I thought that maybe she was receiving a U.S. passport and becoming a U.S. citizen. In fact, she has a Chinese passport (in her Chinese name). She is still a Chinese citizen but with the adoption completed she automatically becomes a U.S. citizen when she enters the U.S. She will receive a document of citizenship after she arrives. We were told by the consulate that she would have dual citizenship but that she should think twice about traveling back to China on her Chinese passport as she may well regret it. We will still need to apply for her Social Security card and 're-adopt' her in Illinois if we want to get a birth certificate but this is the last step we *must* do to make the whole thing official. To celebrate, our agency gave Molly a stuffed panda on the ride back to the White Swan. We leave Guangzhou for Los Angeles tomorrow night.
