The one downside of adoption is that it is traumatic for the child, if only temporarily. Leaving the orphanage, she is taken away from all that she has ever known. Babies react in different ways. At least one study suggests that the modal response is to 'shut down' emotionally. Molly has been pretty awestruck by the whole thing. Molly smiled for Daddy yesterday, our first full day with her, for the first time (we got that on videotape). Then today at breakfast she opened up a little more, smiling and playing with Mommy.
